Cremation vs. Traditional Burial

I’ve attended several wakes and funerals in my entire life. Each time, it’s getting better and better. I have observed the evolution of how families say goodbye to their loved ones from the most simple to the almost gorgeous. Flower arrangements are getting more sophisticated and elaborate and the catering services definitely much improved.

More and more people opt for cremation. What does the Church say about this? Well, the Catholic Church already allows cremation instead of the traditional burial six feet below the ground for those who would opt for it. Memorial lots are becoming more and more expensive and in big cities, open spaces are utilized for some other purpose. In Manila for example, a columbarium can be found at the basement of a Church. It gives an opportunity for grieving families to offer Masses for the Dead without having to travel very far. They can remember their departed loved ones in a place close to home without the dangers of environmental contaminants found in regular cemeteries.

Prices range from P1200-1500 per month for 5 years. Your P72,000 contract price where you can keep around 4 urns of cremated remains will cost around 300 pesos for 60 months. I remember a friend reacting to this quite violently! He has a point and I respect his views.  A columbarium is a place for the respectful and usually public storage of cinerary urns (i.e. urns holding a deceased's cremated remains). The term comes from the Latin columba which means dove. READ MORE HERE: http://www.therese.ph/faq.html#two

In Bacolod, Acropolis Gardens offer this Cremation Services. They will start the construction of their Columbarium middle of this year, however. So all cremated remains can be temporarily buried in the usual cemetery lot. For those who already own Garden lots, it allows for more space for other members of the family to be buried together in the future. This is a reality of life that we cannot escape. So, better, prepare and plan ahead. In the final analysis, let us allow God to do His will in us. After all, death is the necessary passage to eternal life.
