Learn from the way the wild
flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in
all his splendor was clothed like one of them.(Mt 6:28)
The readings for today’s Mass do not teach us to be lazy. Quite the contrary, it tells us to do our utmost best in serving the Lord. It points
to God’s Divine Providence. There is no greater joy than putting our trust in
Him. The prophet Isaiah in the first reading tells us that God will never forget
us even if a mother will forget the child of her womb. Psalm 62 in the
Responsorial Psalm reminds us that only in God can our soul be at rest for He
is our stronghold and our salvation. We are encouraged to trust Him at all
times.
Through the second reading, I
examine myself if indeed I am a servant of Christ and a steward of the
mysteries of God. This self-examination is reinforced in the Gospel reading
taken from Matthew 6:24-34 telling me that “No one can serve two masters.” We
cannot serve both God and money. The Gospel is clear that pagans seek wealth.
Today’s Gospel tells us to seek God first and all these things shall be added
besides. It is so consoling that God is promising us today not to worry about
tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself.
