Abstinence


Some of us can’t live without meat. We have become so carnivorous that every meal from breakfast, to lunch, until dinner time, our diet consists of meat products; snack time included. Meat is a good source of protein and protein is one of the building blocks of our body tissues. Holy Mother Church understands that perfectly. That is why, sick people, the very young, the aged and even pregnant women are exempted.

Our culinary arts have taught us delicious ways of preparing our food. They can be so mouth-watering and tempting. Well, we enjoy them all year round! Two days of abstinence won’t hurt. It will even do us a lot of good. Meat protein take more time to digest and frequent ingestion of meat products are too taxing for our liver especially when prepared with so much oil.


Many health conscious persons have already shifted to a vegan diet for better digestion. We are aware that plenty of water and a high fiber diet helps in cleansing our body inside and out. Long before this scientific and medical discovery, our Holy Mother Church had already proposed abstinence as a spiritual remedy.
