UNO-RIAN SPORTSFEST 2014

SPORTSFEST 2014 at UNO-Recoletos is one of the best. From Day 1 with SSG’s enthusiastic greetings at the Entrance; to the food stalls and the band showcasing student talents; to the drumbeaters; and of course, the games! Our students who participated actively in the games showed their athletic side. That’s something they do not show daily in the classrooms. Cooperation among team members expressed their unity and concern for each other, a good way to spend the love month. Oh, love is in the air! The closer bond they have with their classmates and schoolmates spring from more time spent outside of the classrooms in friendship and camaraderie. This is where the action is! This is application part of what they learned in class. The cheering squads boosted their team spirit to fight fairly and do their very best. Healthy competition is needed in order not to give in to mediocrity in striving for excellence. As they develop physical endurance, they also build their character and strengthen the spirit. How else can virtues develop but through constant practice.

It was good that College of Business and Accountancy opened their Business Week together with the SPORTSFEST. That way, we have a lot of business ventures in the campus. Athletes and other students have a wider variety of food stuff to choose from to feed their hungry and growing bodies. The Holy Mass celebrated at the Opening Ceremony gave them a chance to put God first before any endeavor. It showed them clearly that "man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."

The celebration of Mass Comm. Days added color and special events at the Main Lobby. Second Year Mass Communication Students practiced their newscasting skills. Art Appreciation students displayed their art works and an all day long band at the 1606 Park gave musically inclined students a chance to showcase their talents with an audience. Hospitality Management Students were given a chance to prepare meals and practice their bar-tending skills. No alcoholic drinks are allowed on campus, however.

With the celebration of Valentine’s Day, SPORTSFEST 2014 became doubly meaningful. Some Campus Organizations sold roses and candy and balloon hearts to everyone who needed to buy something special for their crushes or loved ones. When is the best time to start this kind of love relationship? College is the best time to get to know someone and start an inspiring journey of love, respect and fidelity. Remember your limits and that true love waits.
